Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast – Annually in March

Ticket sales from the pancake breakfast go to the Frankfort Kiwanis Foundation for the benefit of our many programs which support the children of our community.

Frankfort Food Bank – all year

One of the ongoing programs of Frankfort Kiwanis is support of the Frankfort Food Bank, which provides food to disadvantaged families. We regularly hold or support food drives designed to keep the food bank supplied with sufficient food to meet the gorwing demand.

Salvation Army – Annually in December

Red Kettles – Each year Frankfort Kiwanis members provide volunteers to stand by the Red Kettles to Books for Schoolsring the bells and encourage donations to support the many community services of the Salvation Army.

Angel Tree – one of the major community service projects of the Salvation Army is the “Angel Tree” project which makes sure that disadvantaged children and families can celebrate Christmas with gifts of toys and clothing. Each year, Frankfort Kiwanis members accept a number of the “Angel Tree” cards, and members then buy and contribute the requested items to the Salvation Army for distribution to the families.

Without the Angel Tree program, hundreds of Frankfort area children would be without presents for Christmas.

Longest Day of Play- Annually in June

The Longest Day of Play is held in Juniper Hill Park on the longest day of the year. In 2019, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, more than 1000 children and parents attended, enjoying a wide range of activities for all ages and abilities. The event is designed to encourage families to come out and play with their children.

Kidsfest – Annually in January

Each year the Franklin County Community Early Childhood Council, in collaboration with Frankfort Independent Schools and Franklin County Public Schools, hosts the kindergarten readiness Kids Fest event. Kiwanis, along with other community organizations, participates by providing a booth with a fun activity for children and families.

Kiwanis Key Club – Western Hills High School

Frankfort Kiwanis, like Kiwanis Clubs around the world, is sponsor of a Key Club, whose purpose is to help young people develop leadership skills and a commitment to community service. Frankfort Kiwanis supports an active Key Club at Western Hills High School and provides annual college scholarships to top students.

Circle K International (CKI) – Kentucky State University

CKI is the college branch of Kiwanis, and is designed to develop leadership skills at the college level by involving students in community support projects, and connecting them with other future leaders.

Frankfort Kiwanis sponsors a CKI group at Kentucky State University, and frequently involves its members in Kiwanis activities. Many CKI members become Kiwanians in their hometowns after college.

Court-Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of the Bluegrass

CASA is an organization dedicated assuring that every child who has experienced abuse or neglect can be safe, have a permanent home, and the opportunity to thrive.

Frankfort Kiwanis supports CASA in several ways. First, by participating in the “OK for CASA” event, held annually in __________, in cooperation with the Frankfort Optimist Club. Second, our club holds an annual chili lunch, all proceeds of which are donated to CASA to support its programs. Shown: OK for Casa chili fundraiser at VFW Post 4075.

Dolly Parton Imagination Library 

The Frankfort Kiwanis is a proud supporter of the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, a book gifting program that mails free, high-quality books to children from birth to age five, no matter their family’s income. With the support of Kiwanis clubs and other organizations, the Dolly Parton Imagination Library has provided nearly two million children around the world with one new book a month, meaning that more than 170,000,000 books have been distributed to date.

Franklin County Band Camp – Annually in June

Frankfort Kiwanis supports Franklin County high school music students by providing a picnic meal of hotdogs and chips at the annual summer band camp.

Capitol City Activity Center

We support this, the county’s senior center, by frequently helping prepare and serve food on a monthly basis and on special occasions during the year.

KSU Back to School – Annually in September

Frankfort Kiwanis welcomes KSU students back to school by offering a “tailgate” party, serving hotdogs and chips to all.

Kentucky State University “Sharing is Caring” Program – Annually in September

Books for Schools – Annually in ???

Last year, Frankfort Kiwanis contributed 344 books to the Frankfort Second Street School, in support of childhood education. 

Wreaths Across America – Annually in May

The purpose of the Wreaths Across America organization is to honor our nation’s deceased war veterans by providing a wreath to family members for placing on veterans’ gravesites. In 2021 Frankfort Kiwanis provided or assisted in providing wreaths for veterans’ families.

Franklin County Boy Scouts

AmTryke

The Amtryke company builds tricycles which provide people with disabilities with all the classic advantages of riding a bike: mobility, strength, exercise, coordination, interaction with family and friends, and just pure fun.

Frankfort Kiwanis annually purchases one or more AmTrykes for donation to deserving individuals through various service organizations.
